Located in the West End neighborhood of Providence, the majority of those we serve live in the inner city Providence neighborhoods of the West End, Upper and Lower South Providence, Elmwood and Olneyville. Covering less than 4 square miles, more than 45,000 individuals reside here. Of those people, more than 7,000 are families representing more than 16,000 children.
These communities are among the most diverse in the both the City of Providence and the State of Rhode Island. These neighborhoods also represent the poorest in Rhode Island with the highest levels of children in poverty, low median family income, and high unemployment rates. Despite these challenges, our neighborhoods are also the most vibrant with active commercial districts, access to downtown, schools, libraries and thriving arts and cultural institutions.
